Thinking Of "Snail"...

 Welcome
      To My Input
In Support Of Another Blogger and
                    All of North Queensland Australia
                         Visiting Reader,

Mon 7 Feb 2011
Discovered update "Snail" Posted letting us know she and her environment are fine. Thanks Visitors for your help with transmitting positive good wishes.

Wed 2 Feb 2011 - 2-3am
Would appreciate immensely your best positive thoughts transmitted to "Snail" from A Snail's Eye View (http://snailseyeview.blogspot.com/), and for the Folk, Animals and Land in general of North Queensland. The more positive thoughts being sent for their safety and well-beingness the better.
Floods may have been one crisis to cope with, but what is now looming, strengthening in intensity, and moving ever closer to the North Queensland Coast is far worse.
It seems certain this very nasty determined Tropical Cyclone Yasi will reach the Coast and move across the land to unleash its destructive energy about 10pm Wednesday, 2 February 2011.
At the time of this doing (3am), Yasi is travelling West South West at about 30km/hr (over 18miles/hr) with 270km (over 167mile) wind gusts, and classified as a category 4 with deep concerns may become a category 5.
Listening to Local ABC Radio while doing this, Folk of North Queensland were phoning in saying the outside atmosphere at the time was one of stillness.... not even a breeze, or sound, just a hushed silence.
"Snail" lives in the North Queensland area Tropical Cyclone Yasi will affect...

Monday 31 Jan 2011 Tropical Cyclone Yasi approaching North Queensland Coast

Tuesday 1 Feb 2011 Tropical Cyclone Yasi closer, and the Eye is visible

I will be updating this information....

Wed 2 Feb 2011 - 9-10am
Tropical Cyclone Yasi is travelling fast..... and the size of the Eye is huge....

Tuesday 1 Feb 2011
Nearing Willis Island... time indicates 19:10UTC

Innisfail to left along Coast between Cairns and Tully, is near where "Snail" is.

Tuesday 1 Feb 2011
Time indicated 21:10UTC
Almost over Willis Island

It is now about 10am... News has indicated Tropical Cyclone Yasi has passed over Willis Island. When reaches Coast it is assessed Yasi will affect about 1000km (about 621Miles) of Land Area. The Eye's diameter at this time is about 35km (nearly 22miles). Earlier this morning was upgraded to a category 5....
This is one very scary dangerous cyclone.....

By 7am Wed 2 February 2011, Tropical Cyclone Yasi is over Willis Island....

Wed 2 Feb 2011
Nth Qld's Coastline
somewhere under that wind swirl... the Eye looks larger and clearer.

Wed 2 Feb 2011
By 3pm TC Yasi's Eye well passed Willis Island, The Radar Tracking Equipment tracking it was taken out.

Thur 3 Feb 2011
I request your forgiveness... it is actually Friday as I'm doing this update (even the three previous Trackings). I was so numbly tired yesterday from the vigil I maintained via the radio, then needing to do town, and inbetween it all - maintain the caring of my Clan... I had to have some sleep or pass-out I was so wobbly. But I'm here now, still a bit numb, but also determined.... simply out of respect for "Snail" and for all of North Queensland.....

Wed 2 Feb 2011
Time showing is 23.32 11.32pm... the winds are terrible. Within half an hour the Eye of Tropical Yasi will be over North Queensland.

1am - Thur 3 Feb 2011
Mission Beach first felt the impact, Tully next (both not seen here), but are near Cardwell.
Innisfail (below Cairns) - near "Snail"s area - is on edge of darker red, near Cairns.

This small Radar Image shows the extent of Tropical Cyclone Yasi's reach and intensity... the Eye is still clearly visible as Yasi's impact makes contact with North Queensland's Coastline.

Local ABC Radio were wonderful. They managed to keep their lines open for Folk to phone or SMS. I really do believe Folk are as deeply helped by the doing, as those of us listening are heartened by their Courage.
The Announcers, whether on Air or out in the Field keep one updated... keep the Folk buoyed. They were the same during the Floods.
Folk from around Australia and even other parts of Earth were sending SMS's and phoning in expressing their bestest wishes to all in North Queensland... wonderful emotional support .
With TC Yasi's Eye being so large and in general so big and contained meant it was going to take hours to pass over.
So at night, from Midnight to about 4am Folk were enduring Tropical Cyclone Yasi's category 5 onslaught.
Listeners able to phone or SMS were describing the Wind as being like a Roaring Rumbling sound instead of just a Howling, and relentless. Plus the wind kept changing direction with each cessation moment.
Every Phone Call or SMS Folk managed to get through relayed the experience to be terrifying. Even Folk used to Cyclones said Yasi was the most frightening experience they're enduring.
How can one not be terrified.
To experience such a severe Tropical Cyclone in the dark, at night, not being able to see what is happening, only hear... well one's imagination is a powerful tool for generating ideas, images and thoughts from one's own knowledge.... Can only be worse when what is happening contains an unknown aspect to it also.
And Farmers.... Their Horses, Cattle... and any other Animals of that Kind...
One would be feeling one's Heart is being crushed by one's helplessness for them.... The not knowing how they're faring.... The anxiety of what one will find when one can finally return outside and there's Daylight to see what one will see.
As I listened to the Stories and information Folk were giving via the Radio I found my self laughing, crying, cheering, filled with admiration... and also moments when I felt my Heart wrench.
All that.... and what Yasi was to leave in its passing had yet to be seen, and experienced.

Thur 3 Feb 2011 - 8am
TC Yasi finished devastating the Nth Coast, to continue West as a category 3 then 2 for now.

Thur 3 Feb 2011 - 12.32pm
Tropical Cyclone Yasi is whirling it's way Inland to the West, where no Cyclone usually occurs.

Fri 4 Feb 2011 - am exhausted whatever the time is...

Tropical Yasi is now a Tropical Low. As you can see there is a whole new set of 'severe weather warnings'... both for Mt Isa (far left), and the area of Cardwell (right, just above warning on Coast).
For Mt Isa area is the whole new experience of Cyclone conditions, even as a low.
As for Cardwell, where the devastated Town of Tully is, they are now having to deal with flooding.

This 24hr Rainfall Indicator is to 9am on Thur 3 Feb 2011

This is the report I read this morning for Fri 4 Feb 2011 given at 5am... no maps were updated at the time...
For the Mt Isa areas - Damagng winds and Flash flooding. exTC Yasi located 75km (about 46miles) southwest of Mt Isa moving 23km/hr (about 14miles/hr) WSW. Expected to reach Border of the Northern Territory by mid afternoon.
For the Northern Coastal areas - Flash Flooding due to weak trough along the North Tropical Coast and the continual heavy rainfall. Over 200mm (nearly 8inches) of rain has fallen since what the the Rainfall Map indicates).

And this Story is not yet over... 1 death has been discovered today... a young man of about 23 died from the fumes of his generator. Unfortunately he sheltered in the same room with the generator.
There are still 2 Folk unaccounted for...
And would you believe looters have been caught????? Won't give my opinion.....

When am less tired will try and tidy this up and add a few more bits of information....
I just hope right now "Snail" will be able to do a quick Post for all of us at Blogger to know she's at least ok.
Thoughts and hugs filled with caringness to you "Snail".

Zane from - http://zanephotoblog.blogspot.com/ - kindly added to his Spot good wishes for "Snail".

On Wed 2 Feb 2011 - 2-3am I did a quick Visit To "Snail"...
I really do wish "Snail" does fine. Visited her blogspot recently. She's preparing, but also very concerned. Tropical Cyclone Yasi is huge and dangerous.

Thank you for Visiting. I believe you will be thinking your best thoughts for those of North Queensland, and I thank you for that.

Thoughts are focused for your safety "Snail"
and also for everything else's safety too.

PS: Wed 2 Feb 2011 - 3-4am
What can one say.... It is about 3am as I'm doing this initial information.... Victoria, near bottom of Eastern Australia's Coast has just been coping with floods.... with listening to News via Radio to follow what is happening with 'Yasi'.... have just heard Eastern Victoria is now struggling with Bush Fires!!! Over a thousand hectares of Forest is affected.
But that isn't the end.... North of Sydney in New South Wales ( which is North of Victoria) is also now struggling with Bush Fires... about 40hectares is damaged!!!  Floods, Fires, Cyclones.... Australia is having a very busy Summer.

Final Update Input... Has Been A Big Journey For All, Recovering and even bigger Journey...

Yasi proved to be so focused in being what it is, that even by Sunday, 5 Feb 2011, after being seen as an Ex Cyclone, there was still sufficient identifiable shape to Yasi as it continued travelling West, that concern still existed. The Winds and Rain happening Inland is as good as it is at the same time damaging. Would still be many days before Yasi truly broke up leaving only rain in its wake.

  1. Been reading both your blog and Snails. Will wait and watch as this cyclone unfolds. Best wishes and hoping for minimum loss of life and property. In Port Elizabeth, we bemoan a wind of 30-60 kilometres an hour, well 275 to 300 kilometres an hour is 10 times the speed.

I have added myself as a follower to Snail's blog. Did not see an option to add a follower to yours. Updated my blog a few minutes ago.

    1. Zane, my thanks to you immensely, especially in acknowledging "Snail".
And gosh, thank you for adopting my Spot.
I've only experienced tiny Cyclones, mostly the worst being during the day... the Wind bowed windows in... Yasi would have been horrendous, so much worse with being at night too.
"Snail's" Blog is like going to a private library about Australia. Am certain you won't be disappointed with your visits.
appreciation and good wishes to you Zane, from Magda

I love Macro Photography and at this stage is what have discovered he does wonderfully well, especially the Bugs, whom I adore... also they're alive and remain alive before and after being photographed. http://zanephotoblog.blogspot.com/
    I recommend the experience.
With my tidy-up happening in 2014, I've noticed Zane has not been Posting for about 2yrs. But don't let that deter you from exploring his Blog, still worth the journey an the read

  3. Hopefully you haven't received my responses again. Apologies if does happen. I've changed my Comment form to the Embedded version. I like the option to directly reply to someone who has left their input, feels more personal. Then me being me, is now working my way through my Posts to re-place my responses into the Reply section. So some copying, pasting and deleting is happening.
