Jan 2011 Floods - Photos Of My Area - Pt 1

Welcome To Part 3a of My Summary for
The Queensland Australian Floods
When Affected My Area Visiting Reader.

This Sharing is in 2 Parts...
Part 'a' Relates More To Near Where I Reside....

My Flood Summary may seem drawn out, but am nearly done. The doing has been as much for my self as has been achieved to share with you. Some aspects may be interesting, others not so much. For me, my site has been a way to bring together information that provides a comparative record for this time next year....

I'll begin with my Location in Queensland (Both Maps sourced from Bureau of Meteorology - http://www.bom.gov.au). I highly recommend the getting to know your Bureau of Meteorology. I am discovering an enriching experience in doing so.

Blue dot indicates my Location in Queensland

After the 6 Jan 2011 rain torrent, I remembered the Bridge I did on 20 Dec 2010 (Gympie - "Heavy Rain Wake" 21 Dec 2010). Headed off to photograph the difference. This is as far as I was able to go on 8 Jan 2011. So gave up on that idea.

With that plan ended. Headed back the way I'd come to record what I'd seen on the way. Problem with that was the traffic. which I didn't think about photographing. With only one way open to town the congestion meant a slow return. But eventually I reached my destination. The following photos are the Journey to the above Road....

8 Jan 2011. I'm on the Road I travel to reach the turn-off where I would turn left to reach the Bridge I was aiming for, or, right to go over the Bridge that was now the only access to Town from the Southside of Gympie, where I am......

The Road I'm referring to for the right or left turn-off is after the cluster of Trees at the far end of the photo. The vehicle on the left is on a side-road with no access across. Past that side-road, in line with the Water and before the cluster of Trees at the far end is the Park I did two Posts about. (Gympie - "Flood Waters and a Park" Parts 1 & 2, 9th and 10th Jan 2011).

10 Jan 2011. I'm further back for this photo. Gympie is already an Island.  All that was visible in previous photo is now under water.

In previous photo there is one Tree taller than the others, towards right of photo. It's a Eucalyptus. In the above photo, the last tall Tree, along the left with that same off-centre shape, just visible, is the same Tree. Shows how far the The Mary has risen and spread in two days.

11 Jan 2011. The Mary peaked overnight. I'm further back again than was for previous photo.

Returning to 8 Jan 2011....

The entrance to the Park I mentioned I had done Postings about. The traffic is just visible on the road where I'd turn right or left.

Still 8 Jan 2011. I'm beside the Park on the Road leading to the turn right or left Road. Between the two Trees is a sign nearer to Tree on right.....

13 Jan 2011. The sign is just visible.

On 13 Jan 2011 The Mary had subsided sufficiently for traffic access to town via the Bridge I'd turn right to reach. I did this on my return. The bitumen in the foreground is covered in a layer of mud.

The Journey into Town and back gave it's own Story.... apologies maybe.... this sharing is not quite fulfilled...
