A Gathering of Clouds...

Hi appreciated Friends and Visitors,
So pleased you have stopped by.
Today in Australia is a Holiday to Celebrate Australia, but instead of focusing this year on why the 26 January is celebrated as Australia's Day, I am fulfilling a Posting prepared for October last year...
one that is filled with photos of Clouds...
and they are Clouds over my area of Australia's South East Queensland. So in an abstract kind of way, I'm still sharing the moments with those appreciating the beauty, coping with the challenges and celebrating the generosity experienced with living in Australia on the day..

I have wanted to use the image of Pegasus to introduce a Post ever since I first met it... and this time I found the right time... Pegasus may not be an Australian icon or Dreamtime remembering... but for me... Pegasus flying amid the Clouds is a wonderful envisioning, whatever part of Planet Earth one may be part of I feel.

So let me begin with the first photo, and don't forget the slide show aspect....

That scenic vista is in a Westerly direction. I met the occasion while driving back from a Bowen treatment, when the time was nearly mid-day towards the end of February 2011. The Summer Season, in essence, was nearing its leaving time also.
I still love the quiet urban feel to the scene. The magnificent sky, the distant Mountains looking blue forming the backdrop, each create together a picturesque urban landscape I feel.
So many challenging events before during and after the month of February 2011... and still the Sky gave grandeur to inform and also fill one with hope for better times.

Moving away from the ending of Summer into seeing Clouds from my rental's yard.....

The next two photos occurred during June 2011 about 9am. Being early Winter, it was one of those clean clear mornings, with a Blue Sky and a few light Wispy Clouds...

Now that little wisp of a Cloud was originally North, hovering in a vertical position while I was sitting on the back steps admiring it, when I finally registered to photograph it so I could admire it indefinitely.
Well as quick as I was, by the time I returned, it was turning onto its side, moving towards the East and had begun heading South.
I only just succeeded in collecting those two photos as I quickly went down the steps.
The first photo was at 9am, the second 9.02am, so you can imagine how fast it was travelling. The difference in angle too within that two minutes from being on one side of the Tree in the first and and on the other side of the same Tree in the second while gathering speed.

The next group of 8 photos occurred over a 20minute time span towards the end of August 2011 between 11am and 11.20am. The Season of Winter for Australia would soon be over...

1... We'll begin looking North...

2... turn slightly right towards NNE... the Sun's light is coming from behind the mass of Cloud above...

3... North again, back slightly left, the Sun will be above to our right behind the Dark Cloud...

4... continue turning left and you'll be looking NNW....

5... next we're looking SSW, so will have turned further left...

6... and further left again to be looking ESE next...

7.... further left we'll look up while facing a ENE direction... the Sun is almost out from behind the dispersing Dark Cloud now on our left above....

Lastly we turn way left and we'll be looking West....

Well that read rather spinny, with turning this way and that with the compass directions...
I do love the compass... fascinating I find them... which is odd too, because it isn't that they are doing anything really different when I'm looking... but I love all the concepts that arise in my mind as each direction is clarified.

Pegasus came from

My photos I achieved with my 8megapixel Sony Ericsson Phone Vivaz, with Windows Photo Edit assisting with any sharpening and cropping, and Windows Paint enables me to write on my photos.

Before I go, if you would like a recipe for an Australian favourite.... The Lamington.... and insight into how the Lamington happened, became one of Australia's favourite delicacies and a photo of one... just 'click' to be whisked over to Kimmie's The Serendipity Cafe.

If you haven't already had a read of the Post I did for Australia Day in 2011, and would like to, just 'click'.

Thanks for being here...
May all wonderful things be your experiences.
Appreciation from Magda and Crew.

  1. I looked at them all in a slide show. What a gorgeous big sky! Especially beautiful in the middle of winter when it is at its bluest. (That's a word, isn't it?)

I hope you had a lovely day. Mmmm...lamingtons....I am hopeless at cooking but the bakery in town does a very nice lamo. I'll have to get one for morning tea tomorrow.

    1. Hi SNAIL, glad you did the slide-show way, I think it's the best way. Great boon for Bloggers to have access to.
I even feel awed looking at my own photos via the slide show... and often cringe too when I see they don't look quite as good as I thought.

I think bluest is a lovely word, and as I have Mozilla's British version Browser with an added British dictionary, plus an Australian dictionary for easy access on my screen and there's no wiggly line happening under bluest... then bluest is a word.

Umm Snail... just looked up bluest on my desktop's Aussie dictionary... it's more than just a word... it's a word ecosystem all by its superlative adjective bluest self since the 13th Century of French origin it seems.

Gympie gives powerfully beautiful Sky experiences I find... I think it has something to do with being surrounded by those Mountains which mostly look Blue.

Was a good day, even with the continuing rain... enjoy the Lamington... especially with the fact it is covered in chocolate!
Don't think I'll ever forget your determination to not being separated from access to chocolate.

  2. The bakery is by FAR the best option for lamingtons!! I remember making them by the hundred for a fundraising drive many years ago. The mess! The smell!! The sick feeling in the stomach from eating too many!!!

PS The sky shots are sublime!!

    1. RED I think you've put me off even desiring the gluten and dairy free Lamingtons I discovered... feel queasy even thinking about them.

  3. Hi there - great sky shot! Just to keep up the theme we made lamingtons this week as well. I think the kids survived - but there was a good deal of mess!

    1. STEWART, I'm certain the children loved the Lamington adventure... especially the mess...
I know I'm dreadful when chocolate is involved with an eating project... by the time I'm finished I have as much chocolate to lick off my fingers as I had to put into my mouth... still love the whole experience even though I'm 61... I believe so much in never giving up the pure pleasure some things are to do and or eat.

    1. Oh LAURA I get that way when I'm doing the photos... the moment I see something in one direction happening I begin turning to each other direction just to see the differences, and sometimes looking straight up is as interesting.

When I'm filing the photos I go through the process again in my mind as I focus on remembering which direction each scene happened... the wonders of noticing the Sky can be quite exhausting as well as beautiful!

Glad my Cloud gatherings were a nice break for you... and good luck with catching up

Hugs and thanks for stopping by Laura xxx

  5. I cannot help but smile... the Lamington of Aussie Land has sparked memories...

I smile even more as my mind imagines coconut sprinkled over chocolate covered Clouds... would feel like snow as coconut pieces floated down with messy melted chocolate rain and crumbly bits of cloud

  6. Hopefully you haven't received my responses again. Apologies if does happen. I've changed my Comment form to the Embedded version. I like the option to directly reply to someone who has left their input, feels more personal. Then me being me, is now working my way through my Posts to re-place my responses into the Reply section. So some copying, pasting and deleting is happening.
